This sample language illustrates how a bequest or a gift through a living trust can be accomplished, and is intended to be used for educational purposes rather than as legal advice. We encourage you to share this information with your legal counsel, and recommend that if you are undertaking estate planning, that you do so with the consultation of an attorney. For questions or more specific language, please call Darcy Weaver at 317-791-2553 or email [email protected].
A bequest provides the University of Indianapolis with a specified sum of money from a donor's estate.
"I give _____ dollars ($_____) to the University of Indianapolis (EIN 35-0868107), 1400 E. Hanna Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46227, to further the mission of the University." (or specify the School, Department, Program or Fund at UIndy)
A percentage bequest provides the University of Indianapolis with a specified percentage of a donor's estate.
"I give _____ percent (%_____) to the University of Indianapolis (EIN
35-0868107), 1400 E. Hanna Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46227, to further the mission
of the University without restriction as to use." (or specify the School,
Department, Program or Fund at UIndy)
A residuary bequest is made from the residue, or what remains of a donor's estate after other bequests and all taxes, settlement costs and debts are satisfied. This type of bequest is sensitive to changes in the size of an estate over time.
"I give the residue (or _____ percent of the residue) of my estate to the
University of Indianapolis (EIN 35-0868107), 1400 E. Hanna Ave., Indianapolis,
IN 46227, to further the mission of the University without restriction as to
use." (or specify the School, Department or Program at UIndy)
A specific bequest gives a specific item or specific piece of property to the University of Indianapolis. Such bequests are fulfilled first, before cash and residuary bequests. If you dispose of the specified property during your lifetime, there will be no bequest to the University.
"I give ________________ (describe asset) to the University of Indianapolis
(EIN 35-0868107), 1400 E. Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227, to further the
mission of the University without restriction as to use." (or you may specify
the School, Department, Program or Fund at UIndy)
